Reflecting on 2024 – A Year of Advocacy and Achievement

Monday, January 6, 2025

As 2024 draws to a close, let’s reflect on the accomplishments we achieved together over the past year. Your steadfast support and engagement have driven our progress in key areas.

Strengthened Advocacy

This year, we tackled critical workplace issues, such as the Directive on Prescribed Presence in the Workplace. We advocated for purposeful presence policies and the grievance filed against the Directive demonstrates our ongoing commitment to member health and safety, meaningful consultation, and fairness.

Supporting Member Rights

We took decisive steps to protect our rights and improve workplace conditions, including:

  • Challenging Pay Implementation Issues: After successfully negotiating a new Collective Agreement, we identified and confronted delays in the $2,500 signing bonus. We continue to closely monitor and challenge the implementation process, providing timely updates as they become available.
  • Grievances: We filed more grievances in 2024, including a policy grievance and group grievances on the Employer’s failure to implement the new Collective Agreement within 180 days. We will continue to use all tools at our disposal to enforce our Collective Agreement and hold the Employer accountable for its commitments.
  • Law Society Dues: We engaged the Employer and our provincial union counterparts to challenge a unilateral change in practice. Our collective efforts, including maintaining strong dialogues with the Employer and the filing of grievances, led to the successful resumption of bulk payments for Law Society dues by PPSC and Justice. Our advocacy will continue on this important issue.
  • Enhancing Member Engagement: We prioritized member input to guide our actions. We conducted multiple surveys to better understand your experiences and concerns. These insights directly informed our advocacy strategies and resource allocation.

Looking Ahead

As 2025 approaches, we remain focused on keeping you informed, ensuring your voices are raised and needs are met. Together, we will:

  • Protect jobs and demand accountability to help safeguard the future of our membership;
  • Continue to demand healthy, safe and equitable working conditions for all LPs;
  • Pursue resolutions on the implementation of our Collective Agreement and to the Directive on Prescribed Presence in the Workplace;
  • Call for fair and responsible pension management; and
  • Advocate for workplace flexibility and systemic improvements.

We are grateful for your trust and participation in your union. We wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
