International Day of Persons with Disabilities and AJC’s Commitment to Inclusivity
Tuesday, December 3, 2024
Today, the AJC and the United Nations recognize the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about disabilities in all their forms— visible such as, mobility, visual, auditory, and speech impairments, and invisible, such as sensory/environmental challenges, autoimmune conditions, autism, neurodivergence, learning disabilities, and emotional or mental health challenges.
New Accessibility Features on the AJC Website
We’ve introduced a range of new accessibility features to ensure all members can easily navigate and engage with our online content:
- Screen Reader Compatibility: Our website now fully supports screen readers, allowing visually impaired members to access information effortlessly.
- Text-to-Speech Functionality: Website content can now be read aloud, offering an immersive and accessible experience for those who prefer, or need, auditory access.
- High Contrast Mode: We’ve implemented a high contrast mode, improving visibility for all members, but especially those members with low vision or sensitivity to bright screens.
- Neurodiversity Features: These enhancements minimize distractions and support better focus for all users, but particularly for neuro-diverse users.
- Seizure-Safe Profile: This feature eliminates flashing animations and high-contrast color combinations, ensuring a safe browsing experience for those prone to seizures.
Our Commitment to Inclusivity
We’re dedicated to fostering an environment where every member feels supported, valued, and empowered. By prioritizing accessibility, we are removing barriers, enhancing engagement, and creating a space where all members can thrive.
As we mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, let’s continue improving inclusivity within our community and beyond.
