The AJC Will Fight to Protect Our Jobs and Demand Accountability
Wednesday, November 13, 2024
The AJC has been made aware of the Employer’s latest communication from the Deputy Minister and Associate Deputy Ministers at Justice Canada, that outlined the next phase of the government’s Refocusing Government Spending Initiative.
The Federal Budgets of 2023 and 2024 introduced significant operating cost savings targets for federal departments. While the Employer had previously committed publicly to achieving these reductions through attrition and hiring freezes, they are now saying that job cuts are on the table.
The AJC has not been consulted. The AJC remains steadfast in our commitment to protecting our jobs, and advocating for transparency, fairness and equity in all aspects of this process.
We know the devil is in the details – according to the Employer, these details won’t be available until the next Budget in Spring 2025. We do not accept this delay and will challenge the Employer for full transparency.
Here’s what you can expect from the AJC
- Advocacy for Protecting Our Jobs: We will challenge any actions that result in our members losing jobs. The AJC will push for a critical review of the expenditure on management and external professional services. Cost-cutting must begin at the top, not at the expense of our members who carry out essential legal work for Canadians.
- Demanding Transparency and Consultation: The Employer’s refusal to share details until the next Budget in Spring 2025 is unacceptable. We demand full transparency and insist on being involved in any decision-making process that affects our members’ livelihoods.
- Timely and Meaningful Communications: We are actively engaged and commit to keeping you informed and updated.
- Support for Members: We will provide support and guidance at all stages to champion and protect your rights.
The AJC knows the stakes are high, and is prepared to use every tool at its disposal to protect our members. We will not relent.
Thank you for your continued trust as we navigate this challenge together.
