Bargaining Update
Friday, June 28, 2019
The AJC met with the Employer on June 25th and 26th in bargaining sessions. After having our dates in May cancelled by the employer, the Negotiations Committee is pleased to report we made good progress in negotiations this week. We have committed to additional dates next week, on July 4th and 5th.
We are currently under an embargo and thus cannot communicate any of the details of what has been agreed to so far by the parties at our table. Rest assured that we will keep you informed of any developments.
You may also have read in the media that a number of other bargaining units have reached agreements with the employer and are proceeding through their ratification processes.
While we cannot predict the outcome, as long as negotiations continue it is possible that, we, too, will have a tentative agreement to recommend to the membership. Should this occur, a vote will be held electronically in July or August. ONLY REGISTERED MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE electronic ballots and are eligible to vote.
Please check your email. If you are a registered member, the emailed update will indicate that. If you are not a registered member, you will also receive an email informing you of your status with instructions on how to register if you wish to vote.
Please note that the AJC relies on the employer to identify members of the bargaining unit and that there are sometimes gaps. Therefore, if you are aware of any new lawyers or articling students in your office we ask for your help in reaching out to them and making sure that they are aware of this information, as they may not be on our e-mail list.
