Ottawa, July 10, 2026 – The Association of Justice Counsel (AJC), which represents more than 3,500 lawyers, prosecutors, notaries and articling students in the federal public service, stands in solidarity with members of Public Service Alliance of Canada Local 72150, representing more than 60 security officers who protect the Bank of Canada. These workers have been on strike in Ottawa since June 23 and locked out in Montreal.

Bank of Canada security officers protect one of Canada’s most important public and financial institutions, keeping the Bank’s offices safe and operational every day.

They are asking for fair wages, stable scheduling, and respect. Instead, they were met with employer proposals that would undermine seniority and reduce the maternity leave top-up by one week – a rollback of family supports when Canadians are being hit hard by rising costs, and an issue that directly affects women.

The Bank of Canada has brought in replacement workers or scabs – a clear violation of the Canada Labour Code and 2024 changes that ban the use of scabs in legal strikes in federally regulated workplaces. The Canadian Industrial Relations Board has ordered the Bank of Canada to stop using replacement workers.

As federal public service lawyers, we know that fair compensation, equity and respect for the rule of law are fundamental. When one group of federal public sector workers is undervalued, it impacts us all.
